Dr. Lewter is a Virginia native who attended Virginia Tech to receive degrees in animal science and biology. A 1981 University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine graduate, she went on to complete an internship at the Department of Rural Practice at University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She has focused on acupuncture and complementary medicine for the past 25 years, completing the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society certification in 1992 and the IVAS Chinese Herbal medicine course in 1995. She hosts students from many countries in her practice which offers comprehensive complementary medicine to referral patients in conjunction with their conventional therapies. In addition, she continues to provide mixed animal services in rural Virginia, integrating complementary therapy with conventional veterinary medicine. She is on the board of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Foundation and is the Scholarship Committee Chair.
